REFURBISHING PROJECT FOR CONDEMNED VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENTS IN SFHQ (W) AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

A Timely important project was initiated to repair condemned vehicles and equipments used in the army to make them suitable for re-use, under the directions of Commander, Security Forces (Wanni) Major General WPADW Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu.

These Projects are supervised by the overlooking Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) Colonel HDAN Hettige and the projects are launched by 5 SLEME, 2 SLAOC and 2 ESR respectively.

Bicycles, Motor bikes, tractors, light vehicles, ambulances, heavy vehicles, LED bulbs, Gas stoves, ballistic helmets, office tables and chairs classified as unusable by Field Formation are refurbish under this project.

At the initial stge, 20 bicycles, 2 motorbikes, 20 vehicles including tractors, light vehicles, ambulances and heavy vehicles, 440 LED light bulbs were repaired by the 5th Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Regiment, and 25 Gas stoves and more than 1000 ballistic helmets were repaired by the 2nd Sri Lanka Ordnance Corps and over 50 office chairs were refurbished by the 2nd Engineer Service Regiment.

The repaired vehicles and refurbished equipments were handed over to the respective Headquarters to which they belongs, by the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General WPADW Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, on 05 January 2024 at the Headquarters premises of the 5th Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Regiment.

Apart from the current project, the 5th Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Regiment has developed a coconut shell stove by using condemned gas tanks of air conditioners and scrapped barrels. These coconut shell stoves are going to be used in kitchen in the army camps in the future.
