SECURITY FORCE – WANNI CELEBRATES DEEPAWALI

Security Force Headquarters - Wanni along with the Tamil community in Vavuniya conducted a special Hindu religious observance invoking blessings to all communities at the Sri Kandasami Kovil – Vavuniya on 06 November 2018 on the eve of the Deepavali festival.

Annual Deepawali Pooja was held on a direction of Commander Security Force Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu and arrangements were supervised by General Officer Commanding 56 Division Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc. The main objective of organizing the event was to foster and strengthen the process of reconciliation.

One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”. During the celebration, temples, homes, shops and office buildings are brightly illuminated. The preparations, and rituals, for the festival typically last five days, with the climax occurring on the third day coinciding with the darkest night of the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika.

All observances were held with the presence of large crowds of Hindu devotees paying the highest respect their belief and large gathering of Army personals.

Commander Security Force Wanni Major General Kumud Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while the District Secretary Vavuniya, Mr Mohamed Haniffa participated as a guest of honour.

General Officers Commanding 21 and 61 Divisions Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana RSP and Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP, Assistant District Secretary Vavuniya, Mr. T Thiresh Kumar, North Central Naval Commander Captain Ashoka Wijesiriwardhana RWP RSP, Superintendent of Police Vavuniya Division, Mr. Shantha Thennakoon, Brigade Commanders under 56 Division and a large crowd of Hindus devotees and Army personnel in Vavuniya area were present at the occasion.
