TROOPS OF 61 DIVISION REPAIR THE LEAKAGE OF KARUMPULLIYANKULAM TANK BUND IN PANDIYANKULAM - MANTHAI EAST

Troops of 20 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment together with civilians in Karumpulliyankulam - Manthai East engaged in repairing the leakage of Karumpulliyankulam tank bund on 10 November 2018. The tank bund was drastically caused for erosion due to the monsoon showery condition prevailed in the area.

As per the directions given by the Commander 61 Division Brigadier KDCGJ Tilakarathne RWP RSP Trooop of 20 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, a group of Troops under 612 Brigade together with more than 20 civilians in the area participated in the renovation.

The repair was launched under the close supervision of Colonel General Staff 61 Division Colonel KLSS Liyanagama RWP RSP and Commanding Officer of 20 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Maj IJ Wicramasinghe RWP RSP USP with the assistance of Irrigation Engineer Mallavi.

The Deputy Director Irrigation Mullaittivu and few government officials visited the area with Army officers to mitigate the disaster, which could be occured due to adverse weather. After huge effort taken throughout the day; troops were able to reduce the flow of water to minimise the soil erosion and protect the tank bund. The initiatives was promptly taken by Army personnel to mitigate the disastrous situation and this inavaluable effort of troops was highly appreciated by civilians as well as the government officials.
