Demonstrating its continued commitment towards national environmental and social initiatives, a Shramadhana Campaign aligned with the “Clean Sri Lanka” Programme was successfully conducted at the Government Tamil Mixed School – Periyakulam on 06 February 2026. The programme was carried out from 0830 hours to 1300 hours with the participation of 05 civilians and 01 x 06 troops of the 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. The initiative aimed at creating a clean, safe, and healthy learning environment for schoolchildren.
During the campaign, troops and civilians worked collectively to clean the school premises, remove waste materials, and clear the surrounding areas of the school compound. The Principal of the school, Mr. J Sendilnathan, together with the school staff, highly appreciated this initiative. The engagement between troops, school staff, and students created a positive and friendly atmosphere, strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the Security Forces and the Tamil community in the area.
With the objective of strengthening Civil–Military Coordination within the 56 Infantry Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), the Shramadhana Campaign was conducted under the direction of the General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division. The programme was organized by the 561 Infantry Brigade, under the guidance of the Commander 561 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Chaminda Gunasena RWP RSP psc, and under the supervision of the Commanding Officer 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Major Mahendra Wanniarachchi RWP RSP USP.
Such community-based initiatives conducted in line with the “Clean Sri Lanka” Programme reflect the Sri Lanka Army’s dedication towards promoting environmental sustainability, social harmony, and educational welfare while further strengthening civil–military relations among all communities.
