TROOPS UNDER 61 DIVISION TREAT A SEVERELY WOUNDED ELEPHANT BY A 'HAKKA PATAS' TRAP.

A kindhearted Army team under 61 Division promptly engaged in treating a mortally injured elephant by a ‘Hakka Patas’ trap. People of the locality who noticed an elephant lying with serious injuries have informed to the military personal on 27 September 2018 and troops of 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment were able to find promptly this seriously wounded wild elephant in 61 Division area.

A team of Wildlife Conservation Office in Madu under the Range Wildlife Conservator Mr Ajith Kumara and northern regional veterinary surgeon Dr. Giridharan responded immediately to provide treatments.

According to the instructions given by the veterinary surgeon, troops in good faith prepared rice porridge to feed the elephant and to provide all other necessities to save the life of this animal.

The General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C J Thilakarathne RWP RSP with the consultation of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP VSV ndu gave the fullest support and assured the rescue team for further medical treatments by providing necessities.
