‘Security Forces (Wanni) Commander’s Challenge Trophy Volleyball – 2025’ Promotes Sports Excellence in Mannar District

With the aim of fostering sportsmanship and enhancing volleyball skills among both civil youth and military personnel in the Mannar District, the ‘Security Forces (Wanni) Commander’s Challenge Trophy Volleyball – 2025’ tournament was successfully conducted. The Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Provided guidance for this initiative and concept which was implemented by the General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C P Wijayaratne RWP RSP nps psc with the supervision of Brigadier I P Jayasinghe RWP, Commander 541 Infantry Brigade. The event was organized with the active involvement and support of the under-command battalion of the 541 Infantry Brigade.

The tournament included teams from all five Divisional Secretariats in the Mannar District, with five (05) civil volleyball teams and two (02) teams representing the 54 Infantry Division.

Preliminary matches took place on 20 May 2025 at the Mannar Urban Council Indoor Stadium. The final match, held on 04 June 2025 at the same venue, featured an exciting contest between the 54 Infantry Division ‘A’ Team and the Mannar Divisional Secretariat Team.

Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Commander Security Forces (Wanni), graced the final event as the Chief Guest, while Mr. K. Kanakeswaran, District Secretary of Mannar, also participated. Adding to the significance of the occasion, an exhibition match was held between the Mannar District Women’s Volleyball Team and the Army Women's Volleyball Team. This initiative aimed to promote women's participation in sports and provide aspiring female athletes in Mannar with valuable exposure and experience.

The event concluded with a grand awards ceremony, during which trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes were presented to the winners and runners-up in recognition of their performance and sportsmanship.
