21 INFANTRY DIVISION TROOPS ASSIST IN RESTORING BREACHED BUND OF DIULWAWA TANK

On 10th January 2025, Diulwawa tank bund at Galenbindunuwawa suffered significant damage due to adverse weather condition leading to a partially collapse. This posed a severe threat to the surrounding community, endangering both residential properties and agricultural lands. Responding swiftly to the crisis, with the direction of Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander Security Force (W) and with the guidance of Major General W M S C K Wanasinghe RSP USP, General Officer Commanding 21 Infantry Division. With direct supervision and involvement of the Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 21 Infantry Division Brigadier D S Jayawardana RSP, initiated immediate repair efforts. Troops belongs to 21 Infantry Division Headquarters, 7 (V) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and 5 (V) Gajaba Regiment joined hands with local villagers to mitigate the disaster.

The troops, supported by the community, worked tirelessly to stabilize the damaged bund using sandbags effectively preventing further erosion and potential flooding. This prompt and coordinated effort highlights the strong civil-military cooperation and the Sri Lanka Army’s commitment to safeguarding communities during emergencies.
