Security Forces (Wanni) Launch a Series of Special Poson Poya Day Programmes in Anuradhapura

A series of religious events unfolded at the sacred sites of Anuradhapura during the Poson season, conducted under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni), Major General K M P S B Kulathunga RSP ndc psc. These programmes were meticulously organised with the coordination and steadfast support of troops from the 21 Infantry Division and the Logistics Command (Wanni).

Commencing on Poson Poya Day, 10 June 2025, a number of significant activities were carried out in Anuradhapura. The surroundings of the Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Abhayagiriya Stupa, Lankaramaya Stupa, and Thuparamaya Stupa were thoroughly cleaned. Sanitary facilities were installed, temporary medical aid stations were established, and parabolic huts were constructed to enhance the comfort and convenience of pilgrims. In addition, a variety of religious programmes and devotional offerings, including dansalas, were conducted at these sacred sites, enriching the spiritual experience of thousands of devotees.

Marking a symbolic and heartfelt beginning to the Poson Festival celebrations, a rice dansala was graciously hosted at the Sandahiru Stupa premises. The event was honoured by the presence of the Secretary of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV RWP and two bars, RSP and bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu - China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), fndu (China), psc, along with the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General K M P S B Kulathunga RSP ndc psc. The dansala was organised by the Sandahiru Stupa Administration Office under the Ministry of Defence, in close collaboration with the Logistics Command (Wanni).

As the evening progressed, the spirit of generosity continued with the organisation of several additional dansals, where tea and noodles were offered to the devotees, providing nourishment and warm hospitality to the pilgrims who had gathered in reverence for the sacred occasion in Anuradhapura.

In addition to their routine responsibilities, the 21 Infantry Division and Logistics Command (Wanni) made a remarkable contribution to the organisation of the National Poson Festival at the revered Mihintale temple. Their efforts included thoroughly cleaning the Mihintale temple grounds, constructing parabolic huts, and ensuring the provision of sanitary facilities. A temporary fence was also erected to facilitate the smooth procession of the sacred Mihidu Perahera. Their dedicated support culminated in the successful conduct of the Poson Poya Day Dansala, helping to create a spiritually fulfilling and well-organised celebration for all participants.
