In alignment with the national initiative, the Clean Sri Lanka Programme, the 59 Infantry Division, under the direction of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, undertook a community development project focusing on the enhancement of educational infrastructure and essential amenities in the Mullaitivu District.
Under the close supervision of the 592 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 5 (V) SLSR and 14 (V) GW contributed their skilled manpower towards the successful renovation of Mullaitivu/ Sammugrathnam Tamil School and Mullaitivu/ Olumadu Tamil School. Furthermore, a fully functional drinking water purification facility was constructed at Mullaitivu/ Oddusuddan National School, significantly improving students’ access to clean and safe water.
These upgraded facilities were ceremonially handed over to the respective school children on 16 June 2025, during a brief but dignified ceremony held under the patronage of Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (Wanni).
This community welfare initiative was made possible through the generous financial contributions of Dr Ariyaratnam Gobikrishna of the Gobi Krisna Foundation and Mr Balaraj in Memory the Family of Mr Lawrence Johnpillai, and Lete Mrs Jessie Johnpillai representing the Wanni Aid Organization. The entire programme was effectively coordinated by Major General Ravi Rathnasinham (Retd).
The occasion was further dignified by the presence of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division, Brigadier K L I Karunanayaka RWP RSP ndc, former Commander 592 Infantry Brigade, Colonel A M D B Adhikari RWP RSP psc, Commander, 592 Infantry Brigade; Major H Chandana SLSR, Commanding Officer, 5 (V) SLSR; Major L M Suranga GW, Commanding Officer, 14 (V) GW, the Divisional Secretary of Oddusuddan, the Zonal Director of Education, and other distinguished invitees.
