Under the concept and guidance of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division, division-level cricket tournament was organized with the aim of breaking the monotony of daily duties and fostering teamwork, leadership, and camaraderie among troops. The semi-final and final matches were held on 19 July 2025 at the Division playground, with enthusiastic participation from under-command brigades and battalions.
59 Infantry Division team, 12 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (12 SLLI), 5 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (5 (V) SLSR) and 6 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (6 SLNG) were qualified for the semi-finals. At the final match 6 SLNG emerged as champions, while 12 SLLI became the runners-up.
Matches were played in the true spirit of sportsmanship, with all players demonstrating dedication, discipline, and unity. Apart from the championship trophy, gifts were also presented to both the winners and runners-up as appreciation for their outstanding performances and participation.
