56 Infantry Division Conducts New Year 2026 Bodhi Pooja In Honour of War Heroes And Victims Of Natural Disasters

In line with New Year religious observances and as a mark of respect and gratitude to the nation’s fallen heroes, a Bodhi Pooja ceremony was held on the eve of the New Year 2026 at the Sri Sudharmarama Temple, Atambagaskada. The ceremony was organized with the objective of seeking blessings for the war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice during the conflict, commemorating Sri Lankans who lost their lives due to natural disasters, and invoking blessings for all serving war heroes safeguarding the nation.

The religious observance was conducted by the Incumbent of Atambagaskada Viharasthan, Venerable Sri Saddharma Keerthi Sri Sumana Siddhartha Pujyapada Atambagaskada Kalyanatissabhidana Nayaka Thero. The event was graced by the General Officer Commanding of the 56 Infantry Division, Major General S A U A Solangarachchi RSP ndc psc, along with Senior Officers, the Commander of the 563 Infantry Brigade, the GSO I (Ops) of the 56 Infantry Division, the Commanding Officer of the Atambagaskada Civil Service Defence, and other distinguished invitees.

Approximately 150 villagers from the Atambagaskada area also participated in the ceremony, reflecting strong civil–military cooperation and collective remembrance. The Bodhi Pooja symbolized unity, gratitude, and the enduring commitment of the Sri Lanka Army to honour the sacrifices of its war heroes while fostering harmony and spiritual strength as the nation steps into the New Year 2026.
