REMOVAL OF POLYTHENE DEBRIS ALONG MALWATHU OYA

As part of a sustainable initiative aimed at promoting an environmentally friendly Sri Lanka, and in line with the national concept of “Clean Sri Lanka,” an environmental cleaning programme was conducted on 07 March 2026.

Troops of the 212 Infantry Brigade participated in the programme to remove garbage that had accumulated along both sides of Malwathu Oya, mainly due to the impact of the Dithwa Cyclone. The cleaning operation covered the area from the Malwathu Oya Bridge to “Sinha Kanuwa” in Anuradhapura.

During the programme, large quantities of polythene waste and other debris were collected and disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, contributing to the preservation of the surrounding ecosystem.

This initiative was conducted under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division, and the Commander of the 212 Infantry Brigade. A total of 02 x 30 troops from the 4th Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard actively participated in the programme.

The effort also received valuable support from several government institutions and civil organizations, including the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, Urban Council, Sri Lanka Police, local schools, social organizations, and members of the business community in Anuradhapura, demonstrating a strong spirit of community cooperation in safeguarding the environment
