14 INFANTRY DIVISION CONDUCTS TREE PLANTING PROGRAMME IN LINE WITH WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

On the instructions of the Commander of the Army and under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters (West), the 14 Infantry Division conducted a tree planting programme in line with World Environment Day on 09 June 2026.

The programme was attended by the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division, Major General K M V Kodituwakku ndu, and the Commander 142 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier S H W K Galhenage RWP RSP USP psc. During the programme, 150 fruit saplings were planted at the Aththidiya Mihindu Seth Madura Wellness Centre.

The initiative was organized in conjunction with the 2026 World Environment Day celebrations, which are observed globally to raise awareness of environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices. The programme highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and reaffirmed the commitment of the Sri Lanka Army towards creating a greener and healthier environment.

This year's World Environment Day was celebrated under the United Nations Environment Programme's global theme, "Urgent Climate Action," emphasizing the need for immediate and collective efforts to address climate change and its impacts.
