1ST BATTALION OF THE SRI LANKA NATIONAL GUARD ASSISTS UNDER 57 DIVISION TO RESTORE SCHOOLS AFFECTED BY ADVERSE WEATHER IN PUTTALAM DISTRICT

Due to adverse weather conditions, five schools within the Puttalam District Secretariat Division were inundated on 13 May 2026. In order to facilitate the reopening of the affected schools on Monday, 18 May 2026, the Divisional Secretariat of Puttalam requested assistance from the 573 Infantry Brigade.

Accordingly, on 17 May 2026, under the supervision of the Commander 573 Infantry Brigade, one officer and fifty Other Ranks from the 1st Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard assisted in restoring and reopening the affected schools within the Puttalam Divisional Secretariat area, namely Hindu College, Zahira College, Fathima Girls’ College, Ananda National School, and St. Andrew’s College.
