Under the direction and guidance of the GOC 61 Inf Div and the supervision of the Comd 573 Infantry Brigade troops of the 2 (V) GW carried out a flood relief operation in the Piyadigama area, Galle District, on 22 October 2025.
At around 0700 hours, troops rescued three civilians, including a mother and her two-month-old baby, who were stranded due to rising floodwaters. The rescued individuals were safely relocated to the Sudarshanaramaya Temple, which was designated as a temporary shelter for affected families.
The operation was conducted in close coordination with the Divisional Secretariat and local authorities, ensuring the safety and welfare of residents.
This prompt humanitarian response reflects the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to assisting the public during natural disasters and supporting civil authorities in emergency situations.
