612 INFANTRY BRIGADE CONDUCTED A RIOT CONTROL WORKSHOP

The Riot Control Workshop was organized for the troops of the 61 Infantry Division in response to the evolving political landscape and the need to maintain security within the country. Major General SWM Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Commander of Security Forces – West, spearheaded this initiative to enhance troop readiness and effectively manage public protests.

The workshop began on 11 March 2024, at the 612 Infantry Brigade Headquarters under the supervision of Brigadier MWS Millagala RWP RSP USP Hdmc psc, the Commander of the 612 Infantry Brigade. Major General RAJN Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, the General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, attended the opening ceremony.

The program included instruction on Crowd Control Formation/Drills, Use of Force and Self-defense, Legal implications, and Employment of various Tactics. The workshop concluded on 15 March 2024, with the certificate award ceremony presided over by Brigadier WMLS Dayawansa, the Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division.

This collaborative effort demonstrates the military's dedication to addressing public order challenges and strengthening the nation's security system through training and strategic leadership.
