It was reported that sudden fire was broken out at Nippon Private Industrial Factory (Helmet and plastic goods manufacturing facility) Paragahadeniya,Mawatagama, around 1245 hour on 10 February 2026. It was successfully assisted by the troops of 9 SLNG with Fire Brigades of Kurunegala and Kandy thereby, brought under control at 1840 hour on the same date.
Under the direction of Commander, Security Forces (West), through the guidance of General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division, with the supervision of Commander 571 Infantry Brigade the Commanding Officer 9 SLNG and 1 x 15 troops were able to closely assist Fire Brigade to control the fire. Further, 9 SLNG troops assisted to unload the plastics stored in adjoining building hindering the fire spread.
Further, troops also extended their assistance to the Mawatagama Police to manage the situation, preventing the entrance of the general public to the factory zone to witness the fire. Moreover, troops assisted the police to control the traffic congestion. The Deputy Director DMC Kurunegala and Mawathagama Divisional Secretary also closely coordinated with the troops to control the situation.
