DISASTER PREPARATION TRAINING 'EX-REACH ROW' (PHASE 1) CULMINATES

Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces-West was invited to witness the final Disaster Management demonstrations in the 5-day long 'Exercise-Reach Row' at Udamapitigama and Kelaniya Ferry Sites on Monday (24).

The Exercise largely focused on application of principles and theories of disaster responses, management on rescue operations (water, confined spaces, rope, etc) in the wake of emergencies and disasters. The Exercise setting has been developed under the guidelines given by Major General Sujeewa Senarathyapa, General Officer Commanding 14 Division in consultation with the Commander, SF- West.

The five-day long Exercise commenced on Friday (21) as a training module on Out Board Motor (OBM) handling and training programme at Udamapitigama and Kelaniya Ferry Sites as first stage of the training.

Teams from 6 SLA, 8 SLLI, 8 Field Engineer Regiment and 2 (V) SLLI participated in the initial programme. Well qualified instructors from 2 Special Force Diving Team offered their skilled and technical knowledge to those Search and Rescue teams in the Brigade. The next training phase will follow at the same location.

Major General Sujeewa Senarathyapa General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division, Commander 141 Infantry Brigade, Commander 144 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Staff and Brigadier Admin & Quartering of the SFHQ-West were associated with the programme.
