DISTRIBUTION OF SOLAR PANELS TO SCHOOL CHILDREN

With the objective of fostering goodwill and strengthening the relationship between the Sri Lanka Army and the civilian community, a programme under the theme "From Darkness to Light" was successfully conducted on 06 June 2026 to distribute 67 solar panels to schoolchildren from low income families who lack access to electricity and attend schools in remote and underprivileged areas within the Area of Responsibility (AOR) of the 163 Infantry Brigade.

The programme was organized with the coordination of civil community activist Mr. Parakrama Girihagama and was held under the patronage of the General Officer Commanding of the 16 Infantry Division, Major General L D Perera RWP RSP USP. The initiative was generously sponsored by members of the Sri Lankan community residing in New South Wales and Victoria, Australia.

Accordingly, the programme was conducted under the guidance of the Commander of the 163 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier B K S L Rodrigo RSP, and under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the 9th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment , Lieutenant Colonel P A C D Wijesekara RSP. The programme was successfully carried out with the fullest support, cooperation, and dedication of the troops of 9 SLSR and 3 (V) Gemunu Watch.

The distribution of solar panels is expected to enhance the educational opportunities of the beneficiary students by providing a reliable source of lighting for their studies while improving their overall quality of life.
