HEAVY RAIN CAUSES RATHMAL OYA BANK DAMAGE

Heavy rainfall on November 20, 2025, led to a breach of the Rathmal Oya Bank in the Welpalla Grama Niladhari Division, causing severe damage and submerging nearly 20 acres of paddy fields.

The SLNG team swiftly carried out restoration work over two days (November 20 and 21), successfully reinforcing the canal bank using sandbags. This critical intervention prevented further erosion and contained the damage.

The operation was effectively coordinated by officials from the Disaster Management Centre, the Divisional Secretariat, and relevant provincial and local councils.
