A devastating landslide struck the Pahala Kadugannawa area at approximately 9:00 a.m. on 22 November 2025, destroying a house and a nearby bakery-shop.
The disaster has claimed six lives, while four other individuals sustained injuries and have been admitted to Mawanella Hospital for further treatment.
The landslide has also blocked the Colombo-Kandy road, causing significant traffic disruptions along the main thoroughfare.
Under directives from the Commander of 57 Infantry Division and the Commander of 611 Infantry Brigade, troops from the 8 Sri Lanka Singha Regiment have been deployed to the site. Military personnel are working alongside civil authorities to conduct search-and-rescue operations.
Rescue teams continue to work against the clock to locate the missing individual, despite ongoing operations in the rain.
