Adverse rainfall in the Matara District on November 22, 2025, triggered flooding across the Makandura and Akuressa areas, significantly hindering A/L students from attending the exams on time, affecting local road networks, and disrupting daily life.
Under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, and the Commander, 613 Infantry Brigade, Sri Lanka Army troops launched a rapid humanitarian operation to provide crucial transportation support to affected residents, including Advanced Level students.
• In Makandura Area: 1 x 27 team from the 9th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, utilizing two boats and a Unibuffel vehicle, provided transport assistance.
• In the Panadugama Area (Akuressa), a team comprising 10 soldiers from the 3rd (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch supported rescue efforts.
The troops ensured the safe and timely movement of students, teachers, the elderly, and disabled individuals, guaranteeing access to examination centres and other essential services despite the severe weather conditions.
