On 15 April 2023, in response to an emergency need, Army personnel belonging to 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the 141 Infantry Brigade of the Security Forces (West) rushed to Gonawala in the Kelaniya area and assisted to douse a sudden fire that had erupted in a private plastic bathware shop due to electrical leakage.
Following the information reported and as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West), a contingent of 20 Army personnel, including one officer, along with the Colombo Fire Brigade, quickly reached to the scene and commenced work to bring the quickly spreading fire totally under control within a few hours before more damage was caused to the nearest areas.
Under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division, Commander 141 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry have closely monitored the Army's assistance.
