In a vibrant display of spiritual devotion and community service, Under the guidance and the close supervision of General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division Major General K T P De Silva RSP ndu psc, the Division Headquarters organized a grand scale Vesak celebration with a Vesak zone, drawing large crowds and bringing light and compassion to the sacred occasion of Vesak festival whilst fostering religious and community harmony in the area.
The Vesak Zone stretching along Boossa Race course Junction to the Division Headquarters featured a stunning display of colourful Vesak lanterns and illuminations. A highlight of the event was a grand scale rice and curry Dansal organized in the evening by the Division Headquarters with the generous contribution of under command Brigades and Battalions, which treated delicious meal for more than 6000 Vesak sightseers and devotees in the area.
As a part of the Vesak celebration, in a heartwarming display of spiritual devotion and community harmony, the Division Headquarters in collaboration with the Dhahampasal children, members of Sri Lanka Navy and Viru Kekulu Pre-School children hosted a devotional songs (Bakthi Gee) programme which reverberated messages of peace, mindfulness, and compassion, captivating the audience reinforcing the spiritual essence of Vesak.
In line with this Vesak commemoration programme, a special event on performing art of traditional Tukka Wadu Kolam was also presented in the evening by a group of Tukka Wadu Generation in Ambalangoda at the Division Headquarters’ premises adding more excitement and experience on traditional art of Tukka Wadu Kolam to Vesak sightseers, devotees and the military personnel.
The primary objective of organizing the Vesak Zone was to enhance mutual understanding and foster cordial relations between the local community and the camp was achieved with marked success. This was clearly reflected in the heartfelt commendations and positive feedback received from invited dignitaries and, in particular, the area residents following the conclusion of the program series.
The event was attended by Multireligious dignitaries, the Hon Governor of the Southern Province, District Secretary - Galle, Commander Southern Naval Area, DIG - Galle Division, Divisional Secretary - Rathgama and some key community members of the area, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, and troops representing all under command formations.
