On May 30, due to heavy winds, large tree branches had fallen near the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) and along Maitland Crescent, disrupting traffic on those roads. Responding swiftly, troops from the 14 Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment were deployed to remove the fallen trees and restore normal vehical movement.
Meanwhile, in the Nikaweratiya area, several trees had fallen on a school building in Rasnayakapura. A 10-member team from the 9 Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard, with the support of the Kurunegala Disaster Management Centre and local residents, is set to carry out operations to remove the debris.
In another incident, a section of the dam at Halmillawa was severely damaged after trees fell onto it due to strong winds. Troops from the 16 Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment acted swiftly to reinforce the damaged section by filling it with sandbags and carrying out necessary repairs.
Additionally, a Kottamba tree fell onto a tent-covered vehicle near the Matara Central College, where the National People's Power (NPP) district office is located. Troops from the 3 Battalion of the Gemunu Watch removed the fallen tree.
Amid the ongoing adverse weather, Sri Lanka Army personnel remain on standby to extend full support to civil authorities in providing continuous relief services to all affected areas. These uninterrupted disaster relief efforts are primarily aimed at ensuring public safety and helping those impacted return to normal life as quickly as possible.
