A Day of Gratitude: Local Community Celebrates International Mother’s Day Through Service and Solidarity

In line with International Mothers’ Day, the 163 Infantry Brigade, under the guidance and close supervision of the Bde Commander, successfully conducted a community welfare programme for 50 low-income families residing in the Kamburupitiya area of Matara District. The programme was held on 10 May 2026 at the auditorium of Puhulwella National School, during which 50 dry ration packs Each Pack Worth of 7,500.00 were distributed among the beneficiaries.

This programme was organized with the generous financial sponsorship of Mrs. Lillian Wijayagunasekara for the provision of dry ration packs. The programme was conducted with the participation of troops from the 9th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and with the support of the Puhulwella Army Veterans’ Association.

The dry ration packs were distributed among low-income families representing different communities, including 30 Sinhala families, 05 Tamil families, 05 Muslim families, 05 Christian families, and 05 pregnant mothers, thereby promoting reconciliation, harmony, and unity among the Communty.
