“HUSMEN HUSMAK - VIRU THURU SEVANA” TREE PLANTING PROGRAMME

The “Husmen Husmak - Viru Thuru Sevana” Tree Planting Programme was successfully conducted on 22 May 2026 under the close supervision of General Officer Commanding 16 Infantry Division Major General LD Perera RWP RSP USP with the participation of troops belong to 161, 162 and 163 Infantry Brigades, centering the districts of Ratnapura, Galle and Matara

This programme was organized with the objective of commemorating the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and the nation, paying tribute to their close relatives, honoring the valuable civilian lives lost due to the Ditwah Cyclone, restoring the extensive environmental damage caused by the disaster, and promoting environmental conservation. The programme was conducted in parallel to the “Clean Sri Lanka” national initiative.

A large gathering including close relatives of fallen war heroes, clergies, officials from government and non-government institutions, school students, members of the National Cadet Corps and Tri-Forces personnel participated in the event.

Under this programme, thousands of saplings were planted at several locations across the respective districts, making it a successful community-oriented initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and national values.
