HISTORY
The birth of the 19 Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry dates back to 23rd October 2008, where it was formed as per the expansion from the Army. The 19 Battalion was raised under the Army routine order 58/ 2008 dated 07 October 2008 letter which was led by Army Headquarters. It was raised GR 469228 at Nadankandal school with the 12 Officers and 175 soldiers under 57 Division and 572 Brigade. Lt Col GDYR Perera RSP SLLI was appointed as the first commanding officer.
As a battalion we have fully engaged in humanitarian operation and was able to captured A - 9 Road and Olumadhu, Nadunkerni ,Vishwamadhu and finallyfamousMankulam town. Apart from that we actively participated in Nandikadal final battle and eradicated terrorism fromour motherland.
During the peace time we deployed Wadakaduunder 653 Brigade in year 2009 and performed duties such as civil military coordination, construction etc. After disbandingof 28 SLLI we have been located under 651 Brigade on 24th February 2012. Lt Col TNK Perera SLLI assumed duties from previous Commanding officer and ensure the smooth function of duties. Under his command we were able to achieved the best Battalion of Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi AOR in year 2012.
Present the Commanding Officer Lt Col TMS J Tennakoon RSP SLLI from 09 0ctober 2015 and has taken initiate to enhance sport skills and military training.
