25TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF HASALAKA WAR HERO\'S COMMEMORATED AT HASALAKA GAMINI\'S WAR MEMORIAL AT ELEPHANT PASS

The 25th Death Anniversary commemoration of Corporal Gamini Kularatne known as \"Hasalaka Gamini\" of 6th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment was held at the Hasalaka Gamini\'s War Memorial at Elephant Pass on 14 July 2016. Corporal Gamini Kularatne scarified and dedicated his life for the sake of Sri Lanka\'s territorial integrity and sorrerginity on 14 July 1991 at the siege of the Elephant Pass army camp by LTTE serving in operational duties, he scarified his life to avoid the LTTE attempt that planned for Elephant Pass camp and the rest of 1500 of the soldiers. It is such a brilliant and a very rare sacrifice in the military history of the world. In recognition of his act of gallantry, he was honored with the award of \"Parama Weera Vibhushanaya\" the highest gallantry award in Sri Lanka for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka Army.\r\n\r\nThe commemorating ceremony was headed by Brigadier Aruna Sudasingha, General Officer Commanding - 57 Division and Colonel D. Suriyabandara, Commander - 662 Brigade welcomed the Chief Guest at the Hasalaka Gamini\'s War Memorial at Elephant Pass. Afterwards, lighted the eternal lamp by Chief Guest and during the time audio clipped was played to depicting the noble service rendered by Corporal Gamini Kularatne.\r\n\r\nBrigadier Aruna Sudasingha, General Officer Commanding - 57 Division, Brigadier Jagath Rathnayake, Brigadier General Staff, Secuirty Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi, Brigadier Channa Weerasuriya Commander - 663 Brigade, Colonel D. Suriyabandara, Commander - 662 Brigade and Senior Officers walked up to the cenotaph and laid floral wreaths, in remembrance of Corporal Gamini Kularatne who is war hero in our times. Next, sounded the Last Post honouring heroes those who were fallen at the war arena.\r\n
