To increase sustainable crop production, improvement of long-term soil fertility for better farmer livelihood, alleviating rural poverty and reduce foreign exchange drain on chemical fertilizer imports the government has implemented programs for promoting organic fertilizer projects. According to that, concept of the Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, 57 Infantry Division launched organic fertilizer producing projects under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 57 Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardana and close supervision of the Commander 571 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Dammika Welagedara, Commander 572 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala and Commander 573 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Manoj Madurapperuma.
Organic fertilizer producing projects have been implemented by the 7th Sri Lanka light Infantry battalion, 6th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 9th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 9th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 14th Sri Lanka National Guard and in their camp premises in Kilinochchi area.
