65 Division Challenge Trophy Volleyball Tournament, organized by the 21 SLLI under the supervision of the 653 Brigade concluded on Sunday (8) at the 65 Division sports complex in Alankulam, Thunukkai.
Major General Kumara Peiris, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Division attended as the Chief Guest during the finals, held for both Army and local teams in the area.
12 Army teams participated in the Volleyball Tournament. The finals for Army teams got underway between the 11 Gajaba Regiment team and the 15 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment team. 11 Gajaba Regiment team finally emerged victorious after a close tussle.
In the civil sector, Lucky Star Sports Club and Skylab Sports Club played in the finals and school teams of Mallavi Central College and Palinagar College competed with each other. Lucky Star Sports Club and Palinagar College teams however won trophies respectively as champions.
Private D.E Darmathilake of the 11 GR was named as the Best Dasher while Lance Corporal K Jayasinghe of the 11 GR was adjudged as the Best Receiver of the tournament in the military sector.
In the civil sector, Mr M Ruben and Mr S Prashanth of the Lucky Star Sports Club were nominated as the Best Dasher and the Best Receiver respectively.
In the school category, Mr Ariwilan of the Mallavi M.M.V and Mr Kovilray of the Palinagar M.V respectively received the Best Dasher and the Best Receiver awards.
The GOC, 65 Division awarded trophies and certificates to the winning and runners-up teams. Brigade Commanders of 651 and 653 Brigades, Commanding Officers and many officers participated in the event.
