65 DIVISION ORGANIZED A CRICKET TOURNAMENT IN THUNUKKAI
Youth sports shouldn’t be viewed as something with an end goal, but as a tool for greater good. Youth sports activities have helped to enhance physical well – being, personal development and building a better society. With this intention 65 divisions organized a cricket tournament in Thunukkai area as per the direction of Brigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding – 65 Division on 08 – 12 June 2016 at 65 Division Headquarters – Thunukkai.\r\n\r\n03 civil sports clubs,02 school teams 12 army teams were took part in the tournament, Youth Sports Club – Mallavi and Akkarayankulam Sports Club played in the finals in civilians where Youth Sports Club – Mallavi emerged as champions. S. Thulsidas awarded as the best player from the Youth Sports Club – Mallavi. In the school category, Thirumurukkandi Central Collage which emerged as champions after beating the Mallavi Central Collage and B. Sajeeban selected as the best player from a winning team.\r\n\r\nIn the army category, 20 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 15 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment were played in the finals and 20 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment team emerged as champions after a thrilling engagement. Major A G A S Kulathunga was selected and awarded the best player from army category.\r\n\r\nBrigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding 65 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The trophies and certificates were given away by the chief guest to the winning and runners up teams. Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civilians were took part in the event.\r\n
