With the intention of uplifting the standards of sports and harmony among military and civilians in the area, 65 Division organized a volleyball tournament at Division headquarters – Thunukkai on 20 to 22 February 2016 under the direction of Brigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding – 65 Division.\r\n\r\n12 Army teams, 02 civil sports clubs and 03 school teams took part in the tournament, which was held from 22 February 2016 and finally were played between 20th Gajaba Regiment and 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment in which 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment emerged as champions after a thrilling engagement. Lance Corporal Jayasinghe and Private Nilanka all of the winning team were selected and awarded as the best attacker and best setter respectively. \r\n\r\nLucky Star Sports Club – Mallavi and Akkarayankulam Sports Club played in the finals in civilian clubs where Lucky Star Sports Club – Mallavi emerged as champions. Kanesh Lingam Vinujan and Kandasami Darmendram awarded as the best attacker and best setter from the Lucky Star Sports Club – Mallavi. In the school category, it was the Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya which emerged as champions after beating the team from the Akkarayankulam Maha Vidyalaya. Balasubramaniyam Sanusan - Akkarayankulam Maha Vidyalaya and Vijayarasa Danujan - Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya were awarded as the best attacker and best setter respectively among the school teams.\r\n\r\nBrigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding – 65 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The trophies and certificates were given away by the chief guest to the winning and runners up teams. Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Civilians took part in the event.\r\n
