65 DIVISION TROOPS CONTINUED THE \"WANA ROPA\" PROGRAMME WITH THUNUKKAI STUDENTS

In parallel to the \'Wana Ropa\' National Tree Planting Campaign introduced by HE the President, the 65 Division troops organized a programme to distribute Jack plants to the students of Tamil Mix School in Thunukkai on 02 December 2016. \r\n\r\n653 Brigade and 21 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Battalion organized said programme with the direction of Major General Sarath Weerawardena RSP USP IG, General Officer Commanding - 65 Division. 143 Jack plants were distributed among all students in the school and after principal of school Mrs. Dhanpakkiyasingum made a brief speech of the importance of tree planting and benefits from them in future. Finally, principal invited to General Officer Commanding to plant a jack tree in school premises to mark the event. \r\n\r\nDuring the programme Major General Sarath Weerawardena RSP USP IG, General Officer Commanding - 65 Division has informed to students to he wish to give a gift for the most successfully growing tree after six months period. Senior Military Officers, Principal, Teachers and few parents were took part in the event. \r\n\r\nMeanwhile, 65 Division troops conducted another tree planting programme in Thunukkai Public Play ground and tree reenactment programme for trees which was planted earlier along the B 269 road from Mankulam to Vellankulam on 03 December 2016. \r\n\r\nOne section from all under command battalions of 65 Division took part in this campaign. Officer In Charge of Mallavi Police Station, Secretary of Thunukkai Pradeshiya Sabha, Grama Niladiri - Thunukkai, Development Officer & Sports Officer from - DS Office, Thunukkai, Chairman & members from Lucky Star Sports Club - Thunukkai and villagers also took part in the event. The most significant point of this tree planting programme is, a soldier being nominated as the care taker for each plant.
