66 INFANTRY DIVISION INITIATES A PROJECT ON PRODUCING ORGANIC FERTILIZERS

In support of ongoing government initiative on banning chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and the concept of Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Harendra Ranasinghe initiated this project with the aim of increasing awareness of producing and using organic fertilizers for farming needs. Under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 66 Infantry Division Major General Ajith Dissanayake, HQ 66 Infantry Division and its under command formations launched Organic Fertilizer Producing Projects.

This project aims increasing community awareness on the advantages of usage of organic fertilizer. Initially, it is planned to provide these products to selected local farmers for free-of-charge which enable them to start organic cultivations in their own farmlands as a pilot project. In the subsequent stages, it is expected to provide technical support to local farmers for production of their own organic fertilizer projects.

Organic Fertilizer Producing Projects have been implemented by the 66 Infantry Division, 661 Bde, 662 Bde, 663 Bde and under command Infantry battalions of 24 VIR, 20 SLLI, 20 VIR, 11 (V) GR, 5(V) MIR and 2 SLNG with close supervision of the Commander 661 Brigade Colonel Deeptha Ariyasena, Commander 662 Infantry Brigade Colonel Chaminda Liyanage and Commander 663 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Subasana Liyanagama.
