On the basis of national policy of preserving and protecting forestry of Sri Lanka, enhancing military contributed towards preservation of natural environment Eco system in line with the Army Commanders’ ‘‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’’ vision, with the guidance of Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, in collaboration with Access Engineering PLC, 8th Medium Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery organized a planting of saplings programme at Iranamadu reservoir on 01 January 2021 to mark the 27th Anniversary of 8th Medium Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery.
During the programme distributed more than 7500 saplings of rare species such as Maila, Fishing Rod, Damba, Cashew, Tamarind, Kumbuk, Mango, Ironwood, Thimbiri, and Java Plum to all Military establishments under command to SFHQ KLN.
Commander Security Force Kilinochchi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, with the invitation of Commanding Officer of 8 SLA lieutenant Colonel Sanjeewa Darmarathne. Meantime, all invitees planted saplings in the Iranamadu reservoir area for mark the occasion.
General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, members of Access Engineering PLC, Senior Official of Irrigation and Forest Department and troops of under command formations were present at the event with special emphasis to the present health regulations.
