With the guidance of Major General DGS SenerathYapa RWP RSP ndu the General Officer Commanding- 57 Division, The commander 572 Brigade, Commanding Officer 1 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment organized an awareness programme at Kandawalai Samurdi office to discuss the severe threat of Covid-19 pandemic spreading among the society by the illegal infiltrations across the sea from South India, Tamil Nadu to the Northern Province. This programme was conducted on 30 June 2020 with the participation of PHI, GS’s, Head of RDS, Heads of fishing community and an officer from Dharmapuram Police station. Further, GOC emphasized the aim of this awareness programme was to ensure zero illegal migrants and warn to the public to keep vigilant, especially among the communities in the coastal areas, whilst enhance the relationship in-between villagers and military troops to introduce a proper mechanism for gathering information and empowered them to restrict illegal infiltrations across the sea. After the awareness programme, the GOC visited vulnerable lagoon front to see the likely locations of illegal infiltration/ landing and given instructions to ground troops in order to implement all precautionary measures to restrain illegal infiltration across the sea/ lagoon.
