GOLF INTRODUCTION WORKSHOP FOR KILINOCHCHI STUDENTS

The Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana has initiated a Golf Introductory programme for students of Kilinochchi Central College. This workshop has organized by the General Officer Commanding 57 Division Major General Jagath Gunawardhana with assistance of Golf Development and Golf Sports Consultant, Mr Anil Perera from Sri Lanka Golf Union which is the governing body for sport of golf in Sri Lanka. The aim of Sri Lanka Golf Union is to expand golf in the Island, in order to foster talented junior golfers who can represent at national.

Sri Lanka Golf Union has conducted an Open Golf Day as an introductory programme to foster young talented golfers on 5th November at Eagles’ Heritage Golf Course, Anuradhapura Air Force Base. Before the introductory programme, Selection Camp was conducted for 50 Students at Anuradhapura Central College Ground on 07th August. 21 Students and 3 teachers from Kilinochchi Central College have been selected and got the opportunity to participate for the introductory programme.

At present, the young generation of Kilinochchi area, who was badly affected by 30 years prolonged civil war, are interested in discovering their talents and skills. It is a very positive trend, which help them to rebuild their confidence and encourage the positive approach for their life.

Further, golf training programme will be extended to all schools in Northern Province in near future. Training sessions are scheduled to conduct in each weekend at Kilinochchi Central College Grounds for students those who wished to play Golf from Northern Province. Three qualified instructors, Mr. HLP Hemantha, Mr K Soundaraj and Mr. Ishan Gamage from Sri Lanka Golf Union conducted the training programme. It is certain that this golf training programme is a valued opportunity for young talented youth from Northern Province to understand the game.
