REOPENING OF ELEPHANT PASS RAILWAY STATION SYMBOL OF RECONCILIATION

The Elephant Pass Railway station, which was damaged in the past period of the conflict, has been reconstructed using donations made by children, teachers from South and East, was reopened to the public as ‘Senehasaka Thotupala’ on the 28 October 2016 under the patronage of Ministry of Education.\r\n\r\nThis project was done as a symbol of social reconciliation. The Commander Security Forces – Kilinochchi directed 11th Battalion of Sri Lanka Engineer Service Corps and 18(V) Gajaba Regiment for the reconstructions of railway station under supervision of 66 Division.\r\n\r\nThe Hon Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam together with The Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Services Ashoka Abeysinha, State Minister of Child Affairs Hon. Vijeykala Maheswary Ministers, Minister of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs - North Province Hon. T Gurukularajah, Additional Secretary - Education Ministry Mr. H U Premathilake, Commander Security Forces (Kilinochchi) Major General Amal Karunasekara, Officers of the Northern Provincial Council, Senior Military Officers, many government officials and school children, teachers from North and South of Sri Lanka and many Civilians participated to this reopening ceremony.
