RUGBY CAMP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN AND ARMY PERSONNEL

The Former Commander of the Army and the Chairman of Rugby Development Committee in Sri Lanka, General Daya Rathnayaka (Rtd) joined hands with Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana to popularize the Rugby among school children and military personnel in Kilinochchi.

As their effort, a Rugby Training Camp was organized in Kilinochchi Central College playground on 14 and 15 February 2018, in order to impart knowledge on rules and regulations of the game.

For this event, coachers were provided by Sri Lanka Rugby Union. Many officials and rugby coachers and National Rugby Team members participated for the workshop.

Former Army Commander General (Retd) Daya Rathnayaka graced the event as the Chief Guest together with Commander Security Force Kilinochchi Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana.

On 14 February 2018, 7 Officers and 143 Other Ranks were attended for the workshop and they were well trained and practiced about the skills of rugby by the coachers from Rugby Union of Sri Lanka. Over 400 school children from Kilinochchi Schools gathered to Kilinochchi College playground on 15 February 2018 for attending said Rugby workshop.

Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Rugby - Mr. Priyantha Ekanayake, High Performance Director of Sri Lanka Rugby - Mr. Inthi Marikar , Western Province Rugby President – Deputy Inspector General of Police (Retd) - MH Marso, New Zealand Player and National Coach - Mr. Peeter Wood and many other officials of Sri Lanka Rugby Union conducted this workshop. Senior military officers, principals, school teachers and parents also participated for the event.
