Sport has always played an important role in the Army. It has been used to prepare soldiers for active service, both mentally and physically. It has also served to boost morale, develop ‘esprit the corps’. With this intention 65 Division end up with several sport games including Basketball, Badminton and Elle during month of June and July 2016 at 65 Division Headquarters as per the direction of General Officer Commanding 65 Division. \r\n\r\nThe preliminary rounds of the Badminton Tournament were held during 16 June to 23 July 2016 with the participation of 10 Badminton teams at the 65 Division gymnasiums. 10 SLLI and 1GR selected to the final and after thrilling engagement 10th Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment Badminton team emerged victorious by beating the 1st Battalion Gajaba Regiment team.\r\n\r\nBasketball Championship Tournament of the 65 Division commenced on 04 July and continued until the final day on 25 July 2016 with the participation of 12 Army teams. Final between 65 Division and 19 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment teams and after close encounter 65 Division team emerged as champion in the tournament.\r\n\r\n12 Elle teams played the preliminary rounds of the Elle tournament commenced on 20 – 26 July 2016 and 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment players won the game by beating 15(V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment during final match.\r\n\r\nRepresenting of the General Officer Commanding - 65 Division, Colonel K M R Abeysinghe RSP USP, Commander - 651 Brigade graced the occasion as the chief guest, together with Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks in 65 Division area.
