To symbolize cultural bond between the two communities the 57 Division -Kilinochchi organized a Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival together with District Secretariat Office Kilinochchi on 11th April 2018 at Central College grounds Kilinochchi under the guidance of Major General Vijitha Ravippriya General Officer Commanding 57 Division.
Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana Commander Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi graced the event as the Chief Guest. All Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and all Other Ranks from 57 Division participated in the event.
Lighting of the traditional oil lamp signified the commencement of the day's event and the festival included with variety of traditional and customary games. More than 1000 locals partake for the event to share the New Year happiness and joy with the military personnel. Valuable prizes were given away to the winners and participants by the Chief Guest and other invitees.
The Awurudu Kumariya contest and the Musical Show were the limelight of the evening. More than 40 ladies in and around Kilinochchi area contested for the Awurudu Kumariya competition. The audience enjoyed the evening which electrified by the musical bands of Kurunagala ‘Asha’ and ‘Uthuru Sulaga’ from Civil Security Department (CSD) coupled with dazzling dancing performances of ‘Shine Girls’ from Mathale and dancing troupe from ‘Uthuru Sulaga’.
