SOCCER TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF CIVIL AND SCHOOL TEAMS IN THUNUKKAI
With the intention of uplifting the standards of sports and harmony among military and civilians in the area, 65 Division organized a soccer tournament at Division headquarters – Thunukkai on 12 March 2016 to 20 March 2016 under the direction of Brigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding – 65 Division.\r\n\r\n 12 Army teams, 03 civil sports clubs and 03 school teams took part in the tournament, finals were played between 20th Gajaba Regiment and 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment in which 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment emerged as champions after a thrilling engagement. Private Fernando and Private Anil Chandimage were selected and awarded as the best player and best goalkeeper respectively. \r\n\r\n St. Xavier Sports Club – Thewanpiddi and Winayagar Sports Club - Mulankavil played in the finals in civilian clubs where St. Xavier Sports Sports Club – Thewnpiddi emerged as champions. A Ragunadas and P Ranawath awarded as the best player and best goalkeeper from the St. Xavier Sports Sports Club – Thewnpiddi. In the school category, Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya which emerged as champions after beating the Palinagar Maha Vidyalaya. S Sajidas and S Dilakshan - Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya were awarded as the best player and best goalkeeper respectively among the school teams.\r\n\r\n Brigadier Sarath Weerawardena, General Officer Commanding – 65 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The trophies and certificates were given away by the chief guest to the winning and runners up teams. Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Civilians took part in the event.\r\n
