SUSPECTS IN ILLICIT TREE FELLING NABBED WHILE IN ACTION
To comply with the Presidential directives, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army recently instructed all formations across the country to be alert to this illicit tree-felling and cooperate with Forest Conservation officials and respective Police stations for arrest of suspects. \r\n \r\n15 (v) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops of 65 Division Headquarter in Kilinochchi while on clearing operation in the general area Tenniyamkulam on 04 April 2016, succeeded in apprehending one person, Satinwood Logs and one Tractor engage in illicit free felling in jungle and Handed Over to Vellankulam Forest Office for further investigation. \r\n\r\n20 (v) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops under command 652 Brigade apprehended stock of illicit felled Satinwood Logs and Handed Over to Akkarayankulam Police Post on 23 April 2016. Similarly, a large scale illicit felling of Palu Logs were apprehended by 5 (v) Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) troops while doing patrolling and Handed Over to Nachchikuda, Theikari Forest Office on 24 April 2016. \r\n
