The new Chairperson of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) Mrs Chandrika Senanayake took office on 14 July 2017 amid religious blessings and greetings.

Members of the Maha Sangha and other faiths invoked blessings on the new appointment. After she lit the traditional oil lamp, she placed her signature in an official document, signifying the acceptance of her office.

Mrs Chandrika Senanayake has been serving as the Chairperson of the Special Forces (SF) Seva Vanitha Unit to-date before she assumed responsibilities as the President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the Army Headquarters.

In her capacity as the Chairperson in the SF Seva Vanitha Unit, she served with utmost dedication to uplift the living standards of SF soldiers, disabled War Heroes and family members of SF personnel, unifying not only the members of the SF family, but also those of other Seva Vanitha Units for common goals and interests.

Her motherly care often helped resolve the grievances and concerns of immediate family members and relatives of soldiers during consultation sessions she organized for those spouses.

She took exceptional interest in inquiring into the well-being of the widows as well as family members of disabled SF War Heroes whose requirements are unique and varied. She firmly maintained that a housewife's multiple roles and responsibilities should be well-addressed as a binding commitment when the spouse is away on national duty. This novel approach as the Chairperson of the SF Seva Vanitha Unit has brought about an amazing team spirit amongst all the ladies in the SF families.

The SF Seva Vanitha Unit has also been at the forefront of providing maximum possible support for the construction of new houses, completion of partly-built houses, award of scholarships, provision of financial grants, medical assistance, etc, in the past couple of years. As a result, she is widely admired by many for her charitable and community work.

She looks forward to serving the spouses and their family members of all Army personnel with unfailing commitment and dedication, having undertaken the reins of her new office.

Mrs Chandrika Senanayake is a past pupil of Panadura Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya and is a loving mother of two daughters, Ms Iranka Ranasi, a Doctor by profession, Ms Suwanka Helasi, an Aeronautical engineer and the son, Siyath
