 Sinhapura Welikanda Vidyalaya Students Get Incentives from Seva Vanitha Ladies

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) in coordination with the Lions Club of Colombo Fort organized a donation programme of school items for needy students in Welikanda area at Sinhapura Kanishta Vidyalaya, Welikanda on Saturday (4).

Lions Club of Colombo Fort provided the financial sponsorship for the project, responding to a request made by the ASVU, which aims at promoting education of under privileged students in rural schools island-wide.

This donation was conducted in line with the series of community-oriented empowering programmes organized by the ASVU.

The President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Mrs. Chandrika Senanayake and representatives along with delegates from the Lions Club were warmly welcomed by the teachers and the students of Sinhapura Kanishta Vidyalaya, Welikanda.

The proceedings officially commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the welcome note being read out by the principle of the school.

The ceremony was brightened by some eye catching dance items performed by the students of the school.

Afterwards, the Lions Club of Colombo Fort handed over a stock of accessories, inclusive of essential stationery, shoes, school books, school bags, and sports equipment to the value of Rs. 1 million to the school and the students.

Students and the teachers of the school took this opportunity to present a memento to the President, ASVU, Mrs Chandrika Senanayake as a token of appreciation for this worthy cause. The principal of the school made a special mention about the worthy contribution, made by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit and the Lions Club of Colombo Fort.

The day's proceedings concluded with refreshment offered by the parents of the school.

Mrs Dhananjanee Karunasekara, Vice President, ASVU, Mr Thakshila Ulangamuwa, President, Lions Club of Colombo Fort, Major General Santhusitha  Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces – East, Mr Malan Ranasinghe, Coordinating Officer Lions Club, Lieutenant Colonel Nalindra Mahawithana, Staff Officer 1, ASVU, Senior Officers, Officers, students, parents, teachers and other well wishers were associated with the event.

During a brief visit to the Kandakadu Army farm in Kantale, the same Lion's Club representative, Mrs Nisha Radella made a cash donation of Rs 2 lakhs for enhancement of the welfare role of the ASVU. The cheque was received by Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, ASVU on behalf of the ASVU.
