The ceremonial opening and handing over of the Army-renovated new pre-school building in Sandiran pre-school at Mullewaikkal East took place on Thursday (19).
The ‘Sandiran’ pre-school with over 20 pre-school kids did not have a permanent building for a nursery until 681 Brigade troops of the 68 Division took an initiative to renovate this old building.
Those kids without a proper building were learning under the shade of a tree until the troops noticed it and brought the matter to the attention of Colonel D.M.P.D Dissanayake, Brigade Commander, 681 Brigade.
With the blessings of Major General Rasika Fernando, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 68 Division and on the instructions of Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu (SF-MLT), troops of the 14 VIR and 9 SLNG took the initiative in this regard and renovated an old building in close vicinity.
On instructions, 681 Brigade troops undertook this noble task and completed the renovation of the building within a matter of few months. It cost the Army about Rs 330,000 lakhs.
Colonel D.M.P.D Dissanayake, Brigade Commander, 681 Brigade graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
During the same ceremony, students of the pre-school were gifted with school accessories and necessary books.
Troops of the 681 Brigade, civilians and a large gathering attended the opening ceremony.
