Brigadier Sarath Dissanayake assumed the office as 13th Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers at the Corps Headquarters Panagoda, on 16 February 2018.
The newly appointed centre commandant was warmly welcomed by the Staff Officer 1 (Logistics), Lieutenant Colonel Mangala Balasooriya on his arrival to the Corps Headquarter. Thereafter, he was bestowed with Guard Turnout as per the military tradition and, then Centre Commandant laid a floral wreath to the war heroes’ monument as a tribute to the fallen war heroes who made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the sovereignty of the Motherland.

A premier Sapper member of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam, passed away on 3 February 2018, when he was at the age of eighty. Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam joined Ceylon Army on 08 November 1957 and was posted to the 1 Field Squadron of Ceylon Engineers. After completion of 22 years of dedicated service in Sri Lanka Army, he retired from the service on 08 November 1979.
Attending to the funeral, the Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, together with number of Senior Officers of the Corps and the Army, on 07 February 2018, paid their respect to the remains of late Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam, laid at Vallalai (Jaffna). Moreover, the Colonel Commandant Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi expressed his deep sorrow and condolences to the family members and closerelatives.

Newly appointed 13th Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, took the office during a charming ceremony held at Corps Headquarters on 30 January 2018, was greeted with Military honours and ceremonials before a large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks. Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, is presently performing duties as Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) and a proud product of Ananda Collage.

A Farewell for retiring Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, was held on 27 January 2018 at Corps Headquarters. A large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and the Other Ranks attended the event. Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe enlisted to the Army on 31 August 1981, as an Officer Cadet to the Sri Lanka Military Academy and served more than 37 years in the Army. During his illustrious Military career he held number of Key appointments in the Sri Lanka Army including Military Secretary, Commander Security Forces (Kilinochchi), Commander Security Forces (West) and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

A Mine Detection Dog (MDD) Team from the Sri Lanka Army was honoured by the U.S.-based Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) at its 20th Anniversary Clearing the Path Gala held at Hotel Fairmont in Washington D.C on 24 October 2017. This is the third time the honour has been bestowed on a Sri Lankan mine detection dog team.MLIs annual gala honours individuals whose extraordinary efforts have improved lives in war-torn countries and highlights accomplishments of the past year that have made the world a safer place.For their years of excellent service and the strong bond between them, MDD Yankee and her handler Lance Corporal Rajapaksha TDK of the Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Demining Unit were presented the 2017 Dog Team of the Year award by MLIs President and Executive Director Perry F. Baltimore.

Sapper troops in a massive effort are currently engaged in immediate rescue and relief work in flood-affected areas in close coordination with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and District Secretariats in respective provinces.As flood levels were fast rising due to torrential rains in the past 72 hours, The Commander Security Force Headquarters (West) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General S Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc instructed to Chief Field Engineer Major General GDI Karunaratne RSP psc and Commander Engineer Brigade Brigadier SJMAR Seneviratne RWP USP psc to commenced the rescue and relief operations to prevail the situation. 10 Officers and 143 Sappers are engaging with rescue and relief missions from 25th May 2017 to date (29th May 2017).
