  • NEWLY CONSTRUCTED SAPPERS MESS OF 5 FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT DECLARE OPENS BY THE COMMANDER OF THE ARMY AT SAPPERS HOME MATHTHEGODA

    1 Plant Engineer Regiment was formed in 1980, which was later re-designated as 5 Field Engineer Regiment. 5 Field Engineer Regiment became the mother regiment of the incumbent Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake. In early 1980s, Sri Lanka Army Engineers took over the National Transport Unit land at Maththegoda to house its historical 1 Plant Engineer Regiment. Since then, Maththegoda became the home for number of engineer establishments developing a simple coconut estate to a fully fletched military base. Abinitio the expansion of the Army, Mattegoda became the home for number of Engineer Battalions as well as the Workshop, Engineer Brigade and the Office of CFE. In mid 2017, Maththegoda Army camp was named as Home of Sappers

In mid 2017, Maththegoda Army camp was named as Home of Sappers Facilitating an appropriate Sapper' Mess with a modern kitchen to large number of Soldiers at Maththegoda was a long left essential need and fulfilled with the allocation of funds by Commander of the Army to construct fully fledged Sappers Mess and a kitchen.

  • ANNUAL REUNION OF LEGENDS AND OFFRS FAMILY GET-TOGETHER 2017

    Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers is highly regarded for its excellent traditions, devotion, dedication and respect for the sapper heritage throughout its glorious history of 66 years. Annual Reunion of Legends is a concept brought in two years before to maintain camaraderie and cohesiveness of matured and young, retired and serving as well as a platform for professional sappers to meet annually with their families to share their thoughts in a festive mood.

    Annual Reunion of Legends and Officers Family Get-together 2017 was held at Maththegoda on 29 December 2017 with participation of legends, senior officers of the Corps, officers, spouses and their children. The Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe and the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Mrs Iromi Ranasinghe graced the occasion as the Chief Guests.

  • 12 FIELD ENGINEERS CLINCHES AS THE CHAMPIONS AT THE INTER UNIT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2017

    12 Field Engineer Regimentbecame the Champions at the Inter Unit Basketball Tournament held at Sappers Home Mattegoda on 13 January 2018. The basketball championship was the final sport championship of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers for the 2017. The first round matches held from 10, 11 January 2018 with the participation of teams from ten regiments. 1 Field Engineer Regiment and 12 Field Engineer Regiment beating their opponents was qualified for the finals. While 14 CBRN Regiment and 10 Field Engineer Regiment contested for the first runners up and 14 CBRN Regiment secured the 3rd place. Major General Mervin Perera graced the occasion as the Chief Guest together with large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.

  • SENIOR OFFICERS HOLIDAY BUNGALOW AND ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES FOR OTHER RANKS DECLARE OPEN AT MINNERIYA

    The newly constructed Senior Officers holiday bungalow and Other Ranks accommodation facility were declared open by the Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe amidst religious observances on 18 January 2018. The daysâ Chief Guest, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe on his arrival at the 7 Field Engineer Regiment, was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Punya Karunathilake the Commanding Officer 7 Field Engineer Regiment and accorded with a Guard Turnout. Afterwards the Chief Guest symbolically cut the ribbon and unveiled the plaque of newly constructed Senior Officers Holiday Bungalow. The Colonel Commandant along with other Senior Officers graced at the occasion subsequently inspected the accommodation facilities and appreciated the effort of the construction team.
