65 DIVISION
HISTORY
As per the directions issued by the Army Headquarters Task Force 5 was raised under Security Force Headquarters Wanni on the day of 15th December 2008. Headquarters Task Force 5 was deployed at general area Mallavi on 24th December 2008 with two under command brigades namely 651 Brigade and 652 Brigade. Later Task Force 5 came under Security Force Headquarters (Kilinochchi) from 01st July 2009 with its inauguration. On 06th May 2010 Task Force 5 Headquarters was relocated at Alankulam and continued its duties and tasks in general area Thunukkai. At the time of inauguration there were seventeen Infantry Battalions under Task Force 5 Area of Responsibility until 10th September 2009. On 18th September 2009 Task Force 5 was renamed and upgraded as 65 Division. Headquarters 554 Brigade too was renamed as 653 Brigade and deployed under 65 Division from 07th December 2009. At present 65 Division is executing entrusted duties and responsibilities with three under command brigades and six infantry battalions.
